Foster's news team is on the move

The speed and connectivity of today’s wireless technology have given reporters and photographers the freedom to do their work from just about anywhere and the need for traditional office space has become far less essential.

Beginning Sept. 1, Foster’s Daily Democrat reporters and photographers will trade the oversized bureau space at 11 Main St. for reporting stations on Venture Drive in Dover and a soon-to-be-named location in Rochester and wherever else the news takes them.

And, because all our reporters and photographers live locally, you can expect to see them out in the community both at work and at play.

Seacoast Media Group will continue to run its substantial press operation out of Venture Drive in Dover, where we print Foster’s, the Union Leader and dozens of other publications for commercial print clients.

This move reflects the mobility of journalists in 2018, strengthens our news resources for purposes of management and efficiency, and allows us to reduce unnecessary costs for rent, utilities and information technology.

Glenn Sabalewski, an SMG veteran who served as the group’s sports editor and night managing editor for years before becoming our managing editor for digital news, will take on the role of Foster’s managing editor in the wake of Mary Pat Rowland’s retirement, leading Foster’s into the digital age in partnership with assistant editor Paul “Buzz” Dietterle. They will be based at SMG's headquarters at Pease International Tradeport.

Autumn Stewart, the smiling professional who greeted you at the front desk at 11 Main St., will now be stationed at the front desk at our Pease headquarters, where she will continue to provide meticulous care to all the obituaries we publish and assist with customer service.

At Pease, the Foster’s news team will join their colleagues from Seacoast Sunday, Portsmouth Herald, Exeter News-Letter, Hampton Union, York Weekly and York County Coast Star.

Customers needing assistance with advertising or delivery service can reach Autumn and our other customer service representatives at (603) 436-1800. You can also visit us in person at 111 New Hampshire Ave. at the Pease tradeport in Portsmouth.

While our physical location is changing, our commitment to the people and businesses of the greater Dover, Rochester and Somersworth regions remains as strong as ever.
